Two Out Of Three Aint Bad
Meatloaf

Baby we can talk all night
But that ain't getting us nowhere
I told you everything I possibly can
There's nothing left inside of here
And baby you can cry all night
But that will never change
the way that I feel
The snow is really piling up
outside I wish you wouldn't
make me leave here
I poured it on and I poured it out
I tried to show you just how much
I have
I'm tired of words and I'm too
hoarse to shout
But you've been cold to me so long
I'm crying I suppose instead of tears
And all I can do is
keep on telling you

I want you
I need you
But there ain't no way I'm ever
going to love you
Now don't be sad
Cos two out of three ain't bad
Now don't be sad
Cos two out of three ain't bad

You'll never find your gold
on a sandy beach
You'll never drill for oil
on a city street
I know your looking for a
movie in a mountain of rocks
But their ain't no coup de-ville
hiding at the bottom of
a cracker jack box
I can't lie
I can't tell you that
I'm something I'm not
No matter how I try
I'll never be able
To give you something
something that I just
haven't got
Well there's only one girl
that I will ever love
and that was so many years ago
And though I know I'll never
get her out of my heart
She never loved me back
Oooo I know
Well I remember how she
left me on a stormy night
Oh she kissed me and got
out of our bed
And though I pleaded and I
begged her not to walk out
that door she packed her
bags and turned right away
And she kept on telling me
she kept on telling me
she kept on telling me

I want you
I need you
But there ain't no way I'm ever
going to love you
Now don't be sad
Cos two out of three ain't bad
I want you
I need you-oo
But there ain't no way I'm ever
going to love you
Now don't be sad
Cos two out of three ain't bad
Now don't be sad
Cos two out of three ain't bad
Baby we can talk all night
But that ain't getting us nowhere

Today's Topic:
...Huh.

Well, now I know what it looks like when I don't post in a calander month.

Interesting.

Anywhoo, half my links are dead, I never post, and the four or five people who read this blog are people I talk to and see on more than a weekly basis.

What I'm getting at is, blogging just isn't working out for me. So I'm taking the week and a half break I get over Christmas (and, yeah, it's a Christmas break, calling it a winter break is silly - it almost never comes at the same time as Chanukah or Ramadan. Both of which are probably misspelled.) to start a live-journal.

There are many reasons for this, the main reason being the communities and the icons. Sweet, sweet icons. I'm hoping the commumities will encourage me to post more often, or at least respond to other posts and remain active, and the newness will overcome my laziness.

Well, I can dream, can't I?

Oh, and here are my last quizes. I'm gonna miss you guys!
...untill I get my to start a live-journal up and running...

I'm not sure I agree with this - not the Japanese part, that I totally get, I just don't see how French is harder to learn than Spanish. To each his own, I guess.

You scored as Hoban 'Wash' Washburne. The Pilot. You are a leaf on the wind, see how you soar. You have a good job, and a stunning wife who loves you (and can kill people). Life is good, which is why you can't help smiling. Now if you can just get people to actually listen to your opinion things would be perfect.

Sooo... what you're telling me is that I'm equal parts Wash, Book, and assasin. Huh. It's also weird that I'm also equally River, Kaylee, Inara, and Simon. I wouldn't have thought they'd mix so well. "Well" being a realtive term. Of course.

I'm embarassed to say I kinda like this epitaph.

And now for links:

One of the only things everyone in our group can agree on is "Harry Potter". In that spirit, I have a link for GMonkey fic. I haven't read all of it, but what I've read is surprisingly funny. If you can get past the ridiculous drugs, sex and alchemy...

Speaking of getting past drugs and sex to get to the funny, Least I Could Do is a webcomic Tannis found for me. Try it out. I'm embarassed but unashamed of how hillarious I found this to be.

That's all I got. I accidentally found this Demented Yu-Gi-Oh video while looking for "Torn By A Mime" (still haven't found it, by the way) but I don't really recommend it unless you're in a room completely by yourself and there's nothing (and I mean nothing) better to do. It's funny, but a little... well... demented.

Jewish Joke: A baba took her grandson to the beach. As he played in the surf, she settled in to read her book. A few moments later, she looked up to find her grandson was nowhere in sight! She ran to the edge of the water and saw the little boy being pulled out to sea.

Immediately, she fell to her knees and raised her arms, beseaching God in Heaven. "Please, Oh Lord! Give me back my grandson! I've always been a good Jew, he's a good boy, please bring him safely back to my arms!"

Suddenly a seagull swooped down and gently caught the boy. He flew to the shore and dropped the boy right into his baba's arms!

Tears in her eyes, the old woman turned her face up to the sky again and said, "God... he had a hat!"

"I think that Pizza Hut has the best pizza."

Hee hee, the fact that you put this in italics (and therefore wish it were true) cracks me up. I imagine you wistfully looking out a window, maybe gently pulling back a lace curtain, saying "Maybe...tomorrow they will have the best pizza. Until then, I must settle for Gondola. But...maybe tomorrow..."

By Blogger Lynnsey, at 6:30 PM

I do wish that I thought Pizza Hut has the best pizza. It's cheap and the portions are relatively generous.

Unfortunately, I think their pizza tastes like dog doo. Salty dog doo.

So I have to spend the extra $$. I is sad. :'(

Today's Topic:
It's not my fault! They kept rescheduling the "Time Management" seminar!
                                                                                                                               .
I have one week 'till my first exam, a paper about how to do a differential diagnosis of indigestion due Wednesday, a History of Medicine paper I haven't even started and an Ethics paper I haven't even started thinking about... and I spent the morning watching "Wolf's Rain".

I've never been the Martha Stewart of organization, but this is insane even for me. And now I'm blogging about it. Is there a support group for stuff like this? And, if there is, should I really take the time to go since my priority-setting device seems stuck on reverse?

"Carla, are you studying for the exam tomorrow?"
"Don't have time, gotta go to my time management group."

Yup. Sounds like me.

Honestly, though, I didn't mean to waste the morning on anime. I just started watching the first episode while eating breakfast (I can't surf or type while eating, and even reading is tricky) and after breakfast was over I... kinda kept watching. A bit. Ten episodes or so...

Part of the problem was that I had no idea what to expect. I knew there'd be wolves and bishies (I had no idea the wolves were the bishies) but that was pretty much it.

Turns out there's MORE than pretty wolves and pretty boys. There's even plot!

Sorry if that came out snarky. It's a 30-episode series and I'd downloaded the whole thing before even asking what it was about. I don't usually do that (I even knew about "Gravitation" before I downloaded it) and I'm feeling kinda silly. I didn't even know about the seiyuu (only two I recognized - from "Fruits Basket") which is really unlike me.

Still, I regret NOTHING! I like all the characters (even the hero and the bad guys) and I love Toboe... which, again, is weird 'cause he's like the Shippou/Sakura character. Still he's incredibly sweet and naive... and cutely stupid. I thought Hige'd be my favorite character, 'cause he's quite snarky and has the habit of laughing at people when they insult him (which I love), but the more I see of Toboe, the more I like him. The two main characters (Kiba - "our hero" and Tsume "our rival") are a little too serious for my taste, but they do have excellent chemistry... both together and with other characters. Tsume and Toboe have a kinda Yuki/Shuichi thing going on, but I'm sure that has nothing to do with my Toboe love.

Anywhoo, the art is very pretty (which was pretty much the only thing I knew going in) and the transition of the wolves to humans is really nicely done. The plot's easy to follow and alows for a lot of variation episode-to-episode. Basically, Kiba's leading Tsume, Hige and Toboe (the four of them form a kind of "pack") on a search for paradise. To do this they need something called a "lunar flower" which has been genetically altered to take the form of a cute human girl named Cheza. (btw "cute", not "sexy".) Seems simple, and it would be, except there a people who a) want to kill the four wolves and b) steal Cheza.

At 30 episodes (including OVAs), this is a quick series. Expecially if you watch ten episodes a day. Hypothetically.

Reading: "Magic Street" - Orson Scott Card
Unrelated comment: If you have chest pains, hope for indigestion. Angina's not fun.
Listening to: "Fukushu no toki" - Hunter X Hunter
Current Anime: Naruto, Bleach, Gundam Seed Destiny, Wolf's Rain.
Quote: From "Wolf's Rain":
Toboe: "I... I promise not to whine or run away anymore."
Hige: "Wanna bet?"
Toboe: "...
no."

I didn't miss the International Talk Like A Pirate Day... really I didn't!
                                                                                                                               .
To the untrained eye (or ear) it may seem as though I did. However, not only did I remember (and remind many other peoples) I also talked like a pirate.

Sorta.

Well, more like a pirate in disguise. An undercover pirate parading as a medical student.

Er... uh... okay, fine - like a moron parading as an undercover pirate parading as a medical student. But with occasional "arr"s and various references to scurvey and canines. That's gotta count for something!

Anyways, the main reason I didn't post like a pirate that day (btw, it's International Talk Like A Pirate Day, not International Post Like A Pirate Day. Just saying...) was that I was busy doing other things. And I'm lazy. And I forgot to make a post.

But never mind. I have stuff to post now.

T.V. is looking great this year. Last year the big sensations were "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives". Ugh. If it hadn't been for "Veronica Mars", I'd have written off the whole year as crapola.

This year is looking much better. "Bones" looks interesting, even though it's still experiencing birth pains while trying to introduce too many unconventional characters, pushing the initial ship way too hard and solving a crime an episode while not leaving enough time to actually get into the crime (too much shipping and introducing going on). If an arc starts to form, I think I'll get a lot more interested.

"My Name Is Earl" is a show I'd normally never watch. But it's starring Jason Lee, so I had to at least give it a try. Me likey. My only fear is the show will start to try too hard (or not enough) and suck as the funniest plots are used up. So far, however, so good!

The last, and probably the greatest, of new shows comes on tonight... "Criminal Minds". I lurve the premisse, I lurve Mandy Patinkin, and - from what I've seen - the rest of the cast looks good. Here, I'm just afraid of the show taking itself too seriously. But with the Patinkinator.... no fear, people... no fear.

Today's Topic:
I live to Blog again! (sorta)
                                                                                                                               .
I'm tired. And I still have a ton of work to do. I guess I should have listened to EVERYONE who told me this was inevitable.

Dammit, why couldn't I have tried to get into something easier? Like suicide. Ahh.... sleeping forever sounds good right about now. And yet... then I'd never know how "Bleach" ends.

And now, my PERSONAL "List of 12":
1) Killua from "Hunter X Hunter"
2) Spike from "Angel"
3) Ryuuichi from "Gravitation"
4) Rube from "Dead Like Me"
5) Miroku from "Inuyasha"
6) Data from "TNG"
7) Kim from "Kim Possible"
8) Veronica from "Veronica Mars"
9) Chloe from "Noir" (which reminds me... need to do that co-op)
10) Dax from "DS9" - Jadzia, preferably
11) Tara from "Buffy"
12) Rukia from "Bleach"

1. Have you ever read a Data/Tara fic? Do you want to?
No. For two (2) reasons - reason the first: I have never actually read a TNG fic. Reason the second: WTF?

2. Do you think Rube is hot? How hot?
Rube is the hotest hot that ever hotted. Actually he's more pleasently brisque. But that's a kind of hot.

3. What would happen if Rukia got Veronica pregnant?
Hee hee hee... First off, good on ya Rukia. You go, dead girl! Also, the baby would be cute but really, really, REALLY sarcastic. And would use bunny drawing to illustrat said sarcasm.

4. Can you rec any fic(s) about Chloe?
Dammit! Of all the fandoms, this had to be "Noir".... Very little fanfiction, and most of it bad lesbian PWP. No recs. Sorry.

5. Would Spike and Data make a good couple?
Yes! Data's calm demeanor and universal appeal mixed with Spike's sexual energy and lack of shirt (I'm assuming he lacks a shirt) makes the perfect couple.

6. Miroku/Chloe or Miroku/Dax? Why?
Miroku/Dax. 'Cause Dax isn't a 12-year-old girl. I mean, Miroku is perverted, but he's not that perverted.

7. What would happen if Kim walked in on Spike and Rukia having sex?
Applause? Sorry. Um... I like to think that the unflappable Kim Possible would be considerably flapped. And that - why not? - Spike would invite her to join. The more the merrier, after all...

Hey, don't look at me like that. I never said she'd accept.

8. Make up a summary for a Ryuuichi/Dax fic.
"Multiple Personalities"
As the mental walls between Jadzia and Dax's previous hosts break down, she turns to the only person able to understand the confusion she's feeling. Can Ryuuichi help her cope with eight people trying to live in one body, or will his own frequent personality switches lead to something.... more?

9. Is there any such thing as Killua/Veronica fluff?
No. Again, "Hunter X Hunter" isn't that popular a fandom, and "Veronica Mars" is probably still too new for such an insane crossover. That being said, if there was, I'd read it.

10. Suggest a title for a Kim/Rukia hurt/comfort fic.
"Possibly Dead" or "Schrodinger's Cat" (you know, on the principle that the cat might be either alive or dead... or both)... Yeah, I suck at titles.

11. What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted Rube to deflower Killua?
Ugh. A brain sponge. You know, my main criterion shouldn't have been "characters I like". It should have been "characters I'd like to see nekked".

Okay... plot device... ummm... possesion? Mind-altering drugs? No, possession. I'd use possession. And I'd probably have Hisoka possess Rube, 'cause it's something Hisoka would do. 'Course then I'd have to immediately have to make him try to kill Killua. Just to, you know, keep him in character.

12. Does anyone on your friends list read Kim slash?
I think Lynnsey does. Not on purpose, exactly, but some of those fics aren't clearly marked. I'm sure she's soundly ashamed of herself. R-i-g-h-t....

13. Does anyone on your friends list read Ryuuichi het?
There's Ryuuichi het? What's the point of writing het for a guy who's basically cannonistically gay? If you were the type to write het, you wouldn't write it in the "Graviation" universe. Unless it was a Mary-Sue. So no.

14. Does anyone on your friends list write or draw Tara?
Theresa does. Write, that is.

15. Would anyone on your friends list write Spike/Rube/Miroku?
Only if I paid them. Okay, no.

6. What might Dax scream at a moment of great passion?
Ask Worf. Ha ha ha! Just kidding. Ha.

17. If you wrote a song-fic about Veronica, which song would you choose?
Honestly, the opening song from the series.

18. If you wrote a Killua/Data/Rukia fic, what would the warnings be?
shonen ai, het, mechiniality, necrophilia. I know Rukia's not exactly dead, but I'd love to add the necrophilia.

19. What might be a good pick-up line for Dax to use on Spike?
Umm... "Hello."?

20. When was the last time you read a fic about Miroku?
A few years ago. And it was Miroku/Sesshoumaru. I mean, they've never even spoken to each other in the damn series!

21. What is Data's super-sekrit kink?
He's an android? Didn't TNG cover this in "The Naked Now"?

22. Would Tara shag Chloe? Drunk or sober?
Um... probably not. Neither one would initiate it - they'd both be dropping hints the size of planets, but neither one is an initiator.

23. If Ryuuichi and Kim get together, who tops?
That totally depends on which Ryuuichi. Honestly, I think they'd take turns, although for the first time, I think Kim'd be more comfortable with the traditional missionary possision.

And it's weird that this doesn't freak me out with the whole 31-year-old/17-year-old thing. I guess it's because Ryuuichi acts at most 16.

24. "Killua and Chloe are in a happy relationship until Chloe suddenly runs off with Rube. Killua, broken-hearted, has a hot one-night stand with Tara and a brief unhappy affair with Rukia, then follows the wise advice of Miroku and finds true love with Ryuuichi." What title would you give this fic? Name three people on your friends list who might read it. Name one person who should write it.
"Three Dimensions are better than Two" (I dunno, the whole "real"-person/"cartoon"-person thing's been driving me crazy this whole time)

Alack (and alas, I guess) I am the only person on the planet who likes all these fandoms. Lynnsey tolerates them all, but I can't see her getting interested in reading a Killua fic.

Joss Whedon should write it. Joss Whedon should write EVERYTHING.

25. How would you feel if Kim/Veronica was canon?
Meh. S'better than Veronica/Duncan. *shudders*

And that's that!

I'd just like to say that I'm actually not as scared by medical school anymore. I'm actually smarter than some of my classmates! (Not many, but some.) Also I'm retaining lectures better than I thought I would. My biggest fear was that, being out of school for a year, I wouldn't be able to get back into the learning grove. Well, turns out that the grove has been well-worn (almost into a rut) and was very comfortable to slip into. So you can all stop worrying.

Today's Topic:
One month in and already I'm exhausted, overloaded with information and behind.
                                                                                                                               .
Well that was a fun-filled month. I know it's only been a week since school started, but I feel better thinking of it as a month which, technically, it is (Aug-Sept). That makes me less terrified that there's the mid-term exam in another month.

Gah! I'd almost forgotten about that! I need to study!

...

Sorry. Am back. And I'm sorry for implying that all I've done since my last post was study and go to class. I've also gone to the gym a few times. I probably shouldn't have, since that cuts into my studying time, and the mid-term's in one month... ARGH! I've got to study!....

Wait. Okay. I'm better now. I have had some time for relaxation. I finished "Shaman King" (before school started), I've managed to keep up with my web comics (I've addded a few more on the side bar) and (thanks to the gym and the bus) I've managed to almost read a novel.

By the way.... was Hao evil? He really seemed to be, but that would contredict Yoh's main philosophy. Which is fine by me.... I'm a big believer in characters' firmly head beliefs being false. I still think that just because Hagrid said that evil wizards only come from Slytherin, that doesn't make it true.

Argh, tangent. Sorry.

Anywhoo, even though it's not all I've done this week, Medicine is certainly the thing I've done most this week. It's actually more fun than I thought it would be. There's a ton of information to assimilate, but the lecturers are enthousiastic and very willing to offer help if there's a specific question you have. Of course my main problem is that I'm stupid and I just don't get it, and there's really nothing they can do about that, but at least Dr. Amara is sympathetic...

I thank god for the "fuzzy" courses - Eithics, History, etc... They're the only thing keeping my head above water. Of course for Ethics, I found myself immediately taking the unpopular position and defending it (to the death, if neccessary) - even though it's not even close to what I personally believe. I always do that. It's a mental disease. I just really love arguing. Unfortunately, that meant that I was facing a dozen pissed off medical students who thought I was Satan's handmaiden. I am, but that's hardly the point.

Ah well.... at least I lost the debate.

There was really only one point I made that I'd stand by no matter what; If I was a police officer ordered to arrest people who were stealing water, food and medicines in New Orleans, I'd do it. For police officers (and military NCO's) an order is an order. And that's final. If I was a doctor asked to help the police by arresting "looters", however, I would refuse. That's a completely different situation. Why are people so uncomfortable with the idea that in some power structures, personal ethics and morality doesn't matter? And by people, I mean, of course, North American people. Most other societies wouldn't be as afraid of authoritarian power structures. But that's neither here nor there.

Huh. I promised Tannis a funny post. This isn't so funny....

BOOBIES!!!

There, that's better...

Oh wait. Sorry. Wrong story. Hold on a sec, here we go:
